Installation Instructions

Before getting started with the installation process it is important that you read the Installation Instructions and Application Diagrams.

Recommended Tools:

  • Hand and eye protection
  • Heavy duty wire broom
  • Fine bristle brush
  • Heavy-duty SDS hammer drill
  • Carbide tip 5/32" SDS masonry bit
  • Can of compressed air
  • Standard rotary drill
  • ¼" Hex head driver
  • Utility knife
  • Soft dry cloth

Installation Precautions

  • Use caution when applying the Median-Alert™ in ambient temperatures below 50°F, as cooler temperatures may reduce the installation flexibility of the device. If necessary place the device in a warm area to increase flexibility prior to installation.
  • Do not apply the Median-Alert™ in extreme temperature environments. The Median-Alert™ is designed with an extremely durable PVC Extrusion Compound that can withstand temperatures ranging from -15°F to 150°F. Temperatures outside this range could result in device failure.
  • Do not apply in areas that will continue to be impacted by vehicles. Median-Alert™ is designed to structurally withstand incidental vehicular impacts, but excessive impacts will cause the reflective elements (and possibly the structure) to fail.
  • Do not over-tighten the concrete anchors, as they could cause the Median-Alert™ structure to deform or tear.
  • Do not apply on surfaces with large cracks, loose sections, or other such damage. These areas should be repaired and allowed time to properly cure prior to installing the Median-Alert™.

Installation Steps
Be sure to read the entire Installation Instructions prior to installing the Median-Alert™.

Step 1
Prep the area

Step 1 - Prep the Area

Thoroughly clean installation surface area with a heavy duty wire broom followed by a fine bristle brush to ensure surface is free of dirt, debris, and dust.

Step 2
Dry Layout

Step 2 - Dry Layout

Place the Median-Alerts™ and parts out where they are to be applied to ensure full median nose coverage. NOTE: The notches face towards the inside of the median.

Step 3
Preset the Median-Alert™

Step 3 - Preset the Median-Alert™

Expose adhesive backing by peeling back the brown paper along the entire unit. Then firmly press the Median-Alert™ onto the surface. If starting on the radius, press from the center to the edges.

Step 4
Connecting Median-Alert™s

Step 4 - Connecting Median-Alert™s

Insert tubular connector into the uninstalled device. Then remove adhesive paper backing (same as step 3). Place your foot near the receiving end of installed device to hold in place. Align connector with installed device and push in until units are flush with one another. Then press device down on surface in a rolling motion.

Step 5
Drill Anchor Holes

Step 5 - Drill Anchor Holes

Set your heavy-duty SDS drill on its rotary hammer action. Drill down into guide holes to a depth of 1 3/4" - 2". Be sure to use a depth guide or tape to prevent over drilling. Use caution while drilling into concrete to prevent overheating of the bit.

Step 6
Blow Out Anchor Holes

Step 6 - Blow Out Anchor Holes

Blow the debris out and away from the holes. Dust in the holes may prevent the anchors from threading properly into the hole.

Step 7
Screw in Anchors

Step 7 - Screw in Anchors

Using a ¼" hex head driver in a rotary drill on its lowest setting, drive the screws into the pre-drilled holes slow and straight. DO NOT over tighten screws as this may cause damage to the Median-Alerts™ flanges.

Step 8
Clean Up

Step 8 - Clean Up

Gently sweep away dust and debris from the reflective elements on the Median-Alert™ followed by a dry soft cloth to ensure optimal retroreflectivity.
